Alternate Routes to Lees-91探花

Starting August 9, the North Carolina Department of Transportation will be moving a section of Route 184 (Tynecastle Highway) to one lane. An end date for the maintenance has not been announced, but it is anticipated to take several weeks. 

Traffic and delays should be expected along Tynecastle Highway throughout the repair process, and alternate routes are recommended when possible.

Route from Boone 

From Boone, North Carolina, take Highway NC 105 South. At the stoplight, turn right onto Broadstone Rd. Continue on Broadstone Rd. until you reach the Mast General Store Annex/Valle Crucis Elementary School. Turn left onto Route 194, heading up the mountain toward Banner Elk. Once in Banner Elk, continue through the stoplight. (Approximately 33 minutes from Boone to Banner Elk.)

Route through Newland via Elk Park (North Campus)

From Boone, North Carolina, take Highway NC 105 South toward Linville. At the stoplight, turn right onto US-221. Continue onto NC-181. Turn right at the stoplight at the intersection of Pineola St. and Linville St. Continue onto Route 194/Cranberry Rd, heading toward Elk Park. Take the right turn immediately before the Elk River Depot to stay on 194. Continue to follow 194 into Banner Elk. (Approximately 53 minutes from Boone to Banner Elk; 20 minutes from Newland to Banner Elk.)

Route through Newland via Hickory Nut Gap Rd. (South Campus/Athletic Complex)

From Boone, North Carolina, take Route 105 South toward Linville. At the stoplight, turn right onto US-221. Continue onto NC-181. Turn right at the stoplight at the intersection of Pineola St. and Linville St. Turn right onto Library Pl., then left onto Elk St. Follow Elk St. as it becomes Hickory Nut Gap Rd. Stay on Hickory Nut Gap Rd. past Wildcat Lake. Continue on Hickory Nut Gap Rd. to reach South Campus, the Bobcat Way houses, the Athletic Complex, and Mill Pond Rd. (route to the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center). To continue to North Campus, turn left on Tynecastle Highway. (Approximately 20 minutes from Newland to South Campus.)
