Graduate Admissions
STEPS TO ADMISSION
To be considered for admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching, the Master of Healthcare Administration, the Master of Science in Criminal Justice, or the Master of Science in Human Services, follow the steps outlined below:

Master of Arts in Teaching
Start Date: August
General Applicants1. Submit your
2. Request official transcripts from all colleges attended
A BA or BS from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher (and a commensurate minimum GPA in content-area undergraduate coursework).
3. Submit a Statement of Purpose
One-page written statement of purpose describing the applicant's career goals and how the Master of Arts in Teaching will help the applicant achieve those goals. Applicants may choose to schedule a personal interview with a member of the Graduate Admissions staff in lieu of a written statement. Click HERE to schedule a virtual appointment.4. Submit three (3) formal letters of recommendation.
Bridge Applicants
1. Submit your
2. Complete a minimum of 75 credit hours of undergraduate coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
3. Submit a Statement of Purpose
One-page written statement of purpose describing the applicant's career goals and how the Master of Arts in Teaching will help the applicant achieve those goals. Applicants may choose to schedule a personal interview with a member of the Graduate Admissions staff in lieu of a written statement. Click HERE to schedule a virtual appointment.4. Recommendation letter from applicant's academic advisor submitted to the Director of Teacher Educatio nand the MAT Program Coordinator.
Applicants are not required to submit GRE or MAT scores. Completed application file will be reviewed for an admission decision within two weeks.
Praxis Subject Assessment ScoresAssessments must be passed by the end of the first semester with Content Knowledge minimum scores of 150 in Biology (Science), 167 in English Language Arts, 158 in Social Studies (History), 154 in Business, or 169 in Marketing.
Prerequisite Course Requirements
Biology Specialization
An undergraduate degree in biology OR a minimum of 20 hours in the following areas is required:- 6–8 credit hours in General Chemistry
- 6–8 credit hours in General Biology
- 4 credit hours from the following areas of Molecular and Cellulary Biology: Anatomy and Physiology; Genetics; Cell Biology; Developmental Biology; Biochemistry; Microbiology; Histology
- 4 credit hours from the following areas of Ecological and Environmental Biology: Ecology; Botany; Zoology; Conservation Biology; Evolution
English Specialization
An undergraduate degree in English OR a minimum of 21 hours in the following areas is required:- 6 credit hours from the following areas of study: Technical Writing; Creative Writing; Journalism; Advanced Research and Composition; Composition and Rhetoric
- 9 credit hours from the following areas of study: American Literature; British Literature; World Literature; Contemporary World Literature; Introduction to Literature
- 6 credit hours in the following areas of study: Advanced Grammar; History of English Language; Linguistics; Theory of Drama; Theory of Fiction; Theory of Poetry
History Specialization
An undergraduate degree in history OR a minimum of 21 hours in the following areas is required:U.S. History
- U.S. History Survey I
- U.S. History Survey II
- Any advanced coursework on U.S. history topics (ex. Civil War and Reconstruction, The Progressive Era, U.S. since 1945, The Civil Rights Movement, American Diplomatic History)
World History
- World Civilizations/World History I
- World Civilizations/World History II
- European History I
- European History II
- Any non-western history course (ex. History of Asia, Latin America, China, Africa, etc…)
- Any advanced coursework on European or World history topics (ex. History of Epidemics and Disease, History of Globalization/Capitalism, Comparative History)
Political Science
- U.S. Government/Intro to U.S. Politics
- Comparative Politics
- Political Theory
- State and Local Governments
- Any advanced coursework in Political Science
Geography
- Intro to Physical Geography
- Intro to Human Geography Economics
- Microeconomics
- Macroeconomics Behavioral Science
- Introduction to Psychology
Marketing or Business Specialization
An undergraduate degree in Business or Marketing OR a minimum of 21 hours in the following areas is required:- 6–9 credit hours from the following areas of study (Marketing)

Studying at Lees-91探花 as an undergrad?
Current undergraduate students at Lees-91探花 interested in the Master of Arts in Teaching may enroll in courses approved for graduate-level credit as early as the spring semester of their junior year. An early start as a "Bridge student" means you can get both your bachelor's and master's degrees in five years!
“Bridge student” applicants must have:
- Completed a minimum of 75 hours of undergraduate coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0'
- A completed “Letter of Intent” submitted to the Director of Teacher Education and the Program Coordinator for the MAT
- A recommendation letter from their academic advisor submitted to the Director of Teacher Education and the Program Coordinator for the MAT
- Praxis subject assessments passed by the end of the first semester with Content Knowledge minimum scores of 150 in Biology (Science), 167 in English Language Arts, or 158 in Social Studies (History)

Conditional Admission Information
The Office of Admission and the teacher education faculty may accept an applicant with pending prerequisites on the condition that they complete and pass those courses with a grade of C or better in the semester they are admitted. Once all conditions have been met, the applicant will be reevaluated for full admission into the MAT program.

Each application is reviewed individually and decisions of admission are based on the following:
- Academic achievement and potential
- Personal characteristics, motivation, and integrity
- Leadership ability as demonstrated by participation in school, community, or religious organizations

The college reserves the right to deny admission to any student if, in its judgement, the presence of that student on campus poses an undue risk to the safety or security of the college community. That judgment will be based on an individualized determination taking into account any information the college has about the student. A disciplinary matter or criminal conviction, whether occurring prior to the time of application, while the application is under review, or after the admission decision has been made, may affect the institution’s decisions regarding admission, enrollment, or course of study.
