Multi-Factor Authentication Policy

This policy is to define the requirements for access to 91探花’s computing networks and technology services. This policy is designed to minimize security risks to 91探花 from operational and financial damages which may result from unauthorized use of, or access to, college networks and technology services. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds a layer of security and user verification which helps deter the use of compromised credentials.

  •

    Scope

This policy applies to all members of the 91探花 community in order to access to email and other network services provided by the college.

There may be extraordinary instances when a legitimate need to use the college’s services outside the scope of this policy occurs. The Vice President of Finance and Business Affairs must approve, in advance, exception requests based on the balancing of the benefit versus the risk to the college.

    User Requirements

All users are required to utilize multi-factor authentication in order to access college network services. If a user does not wish to utilize multi-factor authentication, they will not be permitted to access college network services.

There are two primary verification methods available:

    1. Microsoft Authentication App
    2. Text message to your cellular or wi-fi connected smart device

A phone call to a 10-digit office phone number is available for employee users on a case-by-case basis. The use of a phone call will only be granted for exceptional cases. If a user can’t use any of the designated verification methods, please contact Technology Services to request the use of a digital token. All requests will be reviewed by the Director of Technology Services and the Vice President of Finance and Business Affairs before any alternate verification methods are approved.

    Lost or Stolen Devices

All lost or stolen devices should be reported immediately to the Helpdesk and/or the Director of Technology Services, so that device may be denied access to the college’s network. Users that are granted access to a digital token are responsible for securing the token and safeguarding it from loss or theft. A minimum equipment charge of $100.00 may be applied to replace any digital token.
