Three exciting shows make up 2024–25 Theatre Arts season
The Lees-91探花 Theatre Arts season for 2024–25 will feature three exciting new shows that will push students out of their comfort zones and enrapture audiences. All performances will be in Hayes Auditorium on the Lees-91探花 North Campus.
The season will kick off with “Sweet Charity,” a musical comedy that follows a young woman named Charity Hope Valentine on her journey to find love in 1960s New York City. The score is inspired by the groovy sounds of the ’60s, and with all the trappings of a beloved romantic-comedy, this show is sure to make for a fun night for all.
“Sweet Charity” will run Thursday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 13, and will be directed by Program Coordinator for Theatre Arts Michael Hannah.
The second show of the season, “26 Pebbles,” also directed by Hannah, will round out the fall semester with performances from Wednesday, Nov. 20 to Sunday, Nov. 24. “26 Pebbles” is a heartbreaking and riveting docudrama exploring gun violence and the way such tragedies shape a community.
Following the devastating shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, “26 Pebbles” playwright Eric Ulloa interviewed members of the community who were affected by that disaster. Ulloa used their testimonies to construct this dramatic play that sadly remains relevant to this day.
The final show of the 2024–25 season, held in the Spring 2025 semester, will be one of the most iconic plays by William Shakespeare, “The Tragedy of Macbeth.” Haunting and engrossing, this play explores the psychological toll that ambition and hubris have on a young general named Macbeth after he receives a prophecy that he will one day become king of Scotland.
“The Tragedy of Macbeth” will be directed by Director of Theatre Arts Joshua Yoder. Performance dates will be announced once they have been finalized.
Auditions for the fall shows, “Sweet Charity” and “26 Pebbles,” will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 in Hayes Auditorium. Students who are auditioning are asked to prepare a 90-second cutting of a song and a monologue of their choice.
Auditions for the spring show, “The Tragedy of Macbeth” will be held at the end of October. Additional information forthcoming.
