Executive Director of Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) to deliver 2023 Convocation address

The annual Convocation ceremony ushering in a new year of learning, growing, and experiencing everything 91探花 has to offer will kick off the 2023−24 academic year on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 3:30 p.m. in Hayes Auditorium. This year’s ceremony will feature a Convocation speech from Executive Director of the (BAMSI) Raveenia Roberts-Hanna.

BAMSI, located on the island of Andros, is the premier institution for agricultural studies and marine science in the Bahamas, and Lees-91探花 has been in partnership with the school on a Memorandum of Understanding since 2022. Roberts-Hanna’s speech will introduce Lees-91探花 students to BAMSI and prime them on the exciting potential of this partnership.

“This fall is the launch of our signature program HELIOS, which is co-directed by Dean of Education and Social Sciences Pamela Vesely and Dean of the Library Jess Bellemer, and in May our students will travel to Andros to visit BAMSI as part of their co-curricular leadership experience,” Provost Alyson Gill said. “To celebrate our partnership with BAMSI we asked Dr. Roberts-Hanna to offer some remarks at Convocation as we reflect upon the year ahead. I have known Dr. Roberts-Hanna for several years and am thrilled to be launching this new program at Lees-91探花 as we explore the many commonalities of Bahamian and Appalachian cultures.”

BAMSI and Lees-91探花 share many institutional goals and core values, such as achieving consistent academic excellence and innovation, and extending that education beyond the classroom into experiential learning opportunities, internships, and service. Roberts-Hanna holds a Doctorate in Biological Sciences and has been in her current position at BAMSI since the institute’s inception in 2014.
