“Welcome Week” opens the Fall 2021 semester with activities centered around the Lees-91探花 motto
This academic year begins with festivities designed to immerse the Lees-91探花 community in what it means to be In the Mountains, Of the Mountains, and For the Mountains.
New Vice President for Student Affairs Melanie Hulbert said, “Welcome week is going to be unlike anything Lees-91探花 has ever seen! With a focus on building relationships, having fun with one another, and getting to know our extraordinary community, Welcome Week will build on our motto of IN/OF/FOR the Mountains. We are going to celebrate our return to campus and kick off the new academic year with determination and tenacity!”
Welcome Week kicks off on Sunday, Aug. 8 with Athlete Move-in Day. New and returning fall sports student-athletes will check in at the Cannon Student Center before moving into their new residences. That afternoon, each team will meet with their coaches and come together on Tate Field for dinner and remarks from President Lee King and Athletic Director Craig McPhail.
The non-athlete new students move in Friday, Aug. 13. The day will include multiple activities that will help acclimate students to campus and introduce them to being a Bobcat, including team building games with resident assistants and a special Grand Commission ceremony in the evening. On Saturday, the college is taking all new students up to Grandfather Mountain to see the animal habitats and the world-famous Mile High Swinging Bridge.
Returning students move in Saturday, Aug. 14 and Sunday, Aug. 15. From 11 a.m.–4 p.m. on Sunday, all Lees-91探花 students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend “Day at the Beech” on Beech Mountain, where they can participate in hiking, games, free chairlift rides, and more. Students should note that there will be no lunch service on campus that day, as food and drinks will be provided at the resort.
The first day of school—Monday, Aug. 16—features free donuts and an after-class party in Swank Park. The rest of the week is filled with fun things to do, including the annual Convocation ceremony, bingo, socials for commuter and transfer students, a workshop with Outdoor Programs, a silent disco, a club fair, and a film in Tate-Evans Park.
