Warren Daniel and Dudley Greene to answer constituent questions at community event
Residents of Avery, Burke, Caldwell, McDowell, and Mitchell will have the opportunity to hear directly from their local political leaders this Friday, July 23.
The conversation with State Senator Warren Daniel and State Representative Dudley Greene will be driven by questions from the community on topics like workforce housing, internet service, local transportation projects, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees will also have the chance to submit questions via notecard at the event.
The event is the result of collaboration between 91探花 and the Banner Elk Town Council and will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Hayes Auditorium.
Daniel was first elected to the state senate in 2011. A Burke County native and graduate of Freedom High School, he received a Congressional appointment from Congressman Cass Ballenger to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1987. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in National Security and Public Affairs, Daniel spent the next six years serving in the Army Field Artillery and as an assistant professor at Utah State University. He returned to North Carolina in 1997 to attend the UNC-Chapel Hill law school, eventually joining his family’s law firm in Morganton. Daniel currently serves as the chairman for the Appropriations on Justice and Public Safety, Finance, and Redistricting and Elections committees.

Greene began his first term as the state representative for the 85th district in 2021. He attended Avery County High School and Mayland Community College, where he received an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice and Corrections. He worked in law enforcement for 30 years, including positions with the Newland Police Department, the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division, and the Avery County Sheriff’s Department. Greene served as the McDowell County sheriff from 2008 until his retirement in 2018.
“I appreciate 91探花 and the efforts of Jim Swinkola and all those who have worked to make this event possible,” Greene said. “It has been a challenging yet exciting time to be involved with the legislature this session, and I appreciate the opportunity to provide an update to the folks in our District as well as to hear their concerns about issues I can be of further assistance with.”
Following the discussion, a meet-and-greet will be held until approximately 8 p.m.
