Outdoor Recreation Management students to host gear swap

An Outdoor Gear Swap featuring activities, raffles, gear trading, and informative sustainability talks will be held in Swank Park on Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 5–6 p.m.

Outdoor Recreation Management (ORM) students are hosting the event in collaboration with the Sustainability Club to bring students, faculty, and staff together to trade their outdoor gear, saving the environment and trips to the store.

The Gear Swap is a first for ORM. The department hopes to see it become an annual event, helping the Sustainability Club grow and spread awareness of environmental issues and how simple steps like reusing gear can help.

The raffle will support the institution’s sustainability efforts. The Gear Swap also presents a chance for students to get equipment without spending much.

“I’ve always wanted to attend a gear swap,” said student Nino Barnes. “I’m stoked to have one here on campus right before ski season.”

As they swap gear, students can meet others and plan outdoor adventures.

“I’m so very excited,” said Visiting Instructor Katherine Oglietti. “I love buying gear from local sources. We need a local used gear source.”
