Getting to know Jennifer Lopes, the new dean of Extended Campus and Online Learning
Jennifer Lopes, EdD, is a strong believer in the importance of flexible, accessible, and modern educational environments, which makes her the perfect fit for the position of dean of Extended Campus and Online Learning (ECOL).
“A lot of people want to continue their education for their own personal growth or for career opportunities, but they have a lot of responsibilities outside of the classroom,” she said. “Online learning gives those people the opportunity to pursue their dreams.”
Prior to coming to Lees-91探花, Lopes served as the chair of the Humanities department at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, South Carolina. There, she encouraged faculty to implement innovative teaching practices that increased student success rates and was a champion of experiential learning.
Lopes has a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages and a Master of Arts in Romance Languages from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina. As the dean of ECOL at Lees-91探花, she plans to apply her experience with creating dynamic curriculums to ensure every online and distance learning student receives an education that suits their circumstances and fully prepares them for future careers. Lopes will also have the opportunity to interact with main campus students this year as a Spanish teacher.
