May School of Nursing and Health Sciences kicks off American Heart Month

In honor of The American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day on February 2, the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences students and faculty will wear red to bring attention to the leading causes of death to women, those being heart disease and stroke.

Held the first Friday in February, the campaign encourages individuals, businesses, schools and even landmarks, to wear or “glow red” to help raise awareness. The start of February also marks the beginning of American Heart Month.

Involved in promoting heart health awareness to the local community, students and faculty in the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences take on projects to provide information about risk factors, signs and symptoms, prevention, and other tips on diet and exercise.

The National Wear Red Day campaign is not only to honor those who have battled heart disease and stroke, but also to provide vital safeguard advice for those who are at risk, according to the campaign website.
