Exhibition of drawings, opening reception for Recording Impermanence Thursday, Sept. 21 in King-Shivell Gallery
On Thursday, Sept. 21, Asheville-based artist, Carley Dergins, will have her drawings displayed during the season-opener exhibition titled Recording Impermanence in the Cannon Student Center King-Shivell Gallery on the campus of 91探花.
From 5–7 p.m., visitors can experience Dergins’ work that “reveal a desire to create another, rather than reproducing representations of the world around her,” according to the exhibition description. “Intuitive and abstract in nature, her work exposes an intimate journey. They are a recording of process, spontaneity and [experimentation]—the act of drawing for drawing’s sake.”
Along with her family, Dergins moved to Western North Carolina in 1998 from Michigan. She received a BFA in Printmaking and Mixed Media from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2008. Her work is predominately a study in non-objective works on paper.
Dergins' works have been displayed at the McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as the Roxaboxen Exhibitions in Chicago.
Among her accomplishments are a Printmakers of North Carolina Award from an exhibition juried by Linda Dougerty, Curator of Contemporary Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
