The Lees-91探花 Emergency Medical Services and Management Program receives Letter of Review
Students in the first cohort of the Lees-91探花 Emergency Medical Services and Management Program (EMSM) have reason to celebrate this spring. The program has received a Letter of Review from the leading specialized accreditation agency focusing on Emergency Medical Services education, which means that these students will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians credentialing exam upon graduation.
The letter arrives at an ideal time for prospective students. “Leadership jobs for first responders are now more likely to require a four-year degree,” remarked Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences Dr. Laura Fero. “Our Emergency Medical Services and Management program is one of only 17 in the country to offer a bachelor of science and to hold a letter of review, which makes it a valuable degree and career path for students.”
The letter, prepared by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), also signifies that the program is complying with national standards in order to obtain eventual accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The EMSM program continues to be accredited through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) and through the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.
In addition to the EMSM program, the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences offers bachelor’s degree programs in Pre-licensure Nursing and Athletic Training on site, along with an online RN to BSN option for licensed Registered Nurses to complete a bachelor’s in nursing. All students enrolled in the May School have access to $1.2 million in technology designed to enhance classroom learning and provide real-world experience. Students utilize a fully equipped critical care ambulance built into a classroom, high-fidelity human simulators, and a simulated inpatient hospital unit complete with exam tables, hospital beds and a replicated efficiency apartment. The simulation center was recently designated a Gaumard premiere site, one of only 33 in the country.
