91探花 is proud to announce a new height of success for its Honors Program. At 84 students, the program is enjoying its largest enrollment to date, while also celebrating a persistence rate of 98.18% from fall 2014 to spring 2015. The program is growing at such a rate that program director Dr. Ken Craig is looking to increase its scope to 100 students by next fall. All of these accomplishments come just as the college gears up for its annual Scholars Day on February 21.

“The 91探花 Honors Program has evolved into one of the College’s most exciting offerings,” said Ginger Hansen, vice president of enrollment management and communications. “We are so proud of these students and celebrate the academic and leadership strengths they bring to our campus.”

In addition to high enrollment and strong persistence, honors students continue to achieve high marks in the classroom. The average GPA of Lees-91探花 honors students is 3.69, and of the 84 students in the program, nearly half have a GPA of 3.80 or higher.

Honors students are also carrying their success far beyond the classroom. The post-graduation plans of this year’s seniors heavily favor graduate school. Rachael Nobbs has been accepted to Duke University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program; Rebekah Harp has been accepted to Ross University of Veterinary Medicine; Elizabeth Poteat has been accepted to Lincoln-Memorial University’s Graduate School; and Katherine Shields hopes to pursue her PhD in Exercise Science while also racing for Pain Pathways Elite Women’s Cycling Team.

These celebrations come just in time for Scholars Day, an annual scholarship competition for prospective students who show a high level of dedication to academics and leadership. Students compete for two Elizabeth 91探花 full tuition scholarships, and quadri-annually for the Shelton Scholars Award, the college’s most valuable scholarship. Throughout the event, which is hosted by the Honors Program, students participate in essay and interview competitions.

Students selected for one of these scholarships must maintain active honors status and maintain a 3.0 GPA for the duration of their studies.

The Honors Program provides a challenging and supportive learning environment for academically gifted, highly motivated students. Honors faculty, noted for their excellence in teaching, adopt challenging course material and use sophisticated approaches in the classroom. Honors students have the option to live in a designated residence hall designed to facilitate a high caliber learning community, and participate in multiple educational trips each year.
