Dr. Laura Fero elected to Board of Directors for the North Carolina League of Nursing

August 03, 2015

Dr. Laura Fero, dean of nursing and health sciences at 91探花, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the North Carolina League of Nursing, the constituent league for the National League of Nursing. This national body promotes excellence in nursing education to advance the health of the nation and global communities through advocacy and public policy. Dr. Fero’s term will begin in the fall of 2015 and run for two years.

“I believe this board position will help elevate Lees-91探花 and the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences and expand the representation of smaller colleges offering health science degrees in the state,” commented Dr. Fero. Other board members hail from larger universities including University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, Duke University and Kaplan University. Dr. Teresa Darnall, director of the RN-BSN program at Lees-91探花, will also be serving on the Finance Committee for the League.

This is an exciting year for the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences as the pre-licensure nursing program has accepted its inaugural nursing class who will begin the program this fall. The rigorous application and selection process included a review of the applicant’s academic standing, letter of intent, letters of recommendation and panel interview participation. In the end, 24 students were selected for this historic class.

Nursing students are accepted to begin the program in the fall of their junior year and will complete 59 credits and more than 1,100 hours of clinical in their final two years at Lees-91探花. The Hart Simulation Center, housed within the May School, is designated as a Gaumard Premier Site, one of only 33 in the country. This designation recognizes the Center as a leader in simulation education. In addition, the program has more than 40 clinical contracts in which clinical hours will be completed. Nursing students will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination upon successful completion of the program.
