What is your favorite memory from 91探花?

My favorite memory from Lees-91探花 was getting to ride my bike in some of the country’s most beautiful mountains. I also really enjoyed the time I was able to spend with my dad working on my senior research project on cardiac arrhythmias in collegiate athletes.

Can you attribute any of your current success to your time at 91探花?

Absolutely! I spent a lot of time working in the labs at Lees-91探花 this past year with Dr. Pyatte, Dr. Carver, and Dr. Medford-Baker. That experience made things easy for me to transition into the research position here at the Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute.

What advice would you give to current Lees-91探花 students?

Internships and fellowships are a huge way to separate yourself from the rest of the academic crowd. For biology majors, the American Physiological Society has great opportunities for undergraduate summer research fellowships.

Why do you feel it is important to give back to Lees-91探花?

Lees-91探花 is a family. Everyone is here to support you whether you are a past or present student. I think of how awesome my college experience was and how fortunate I was to have the support of the cycling team and all our great sponsors. In the classroom we had great facilities to use, especially the new nursing school. I was fortunate enough to conduct a large portion of my research with the help of the nursing faculty and their equipment. Moving forward, it is important to keep this level of support available and improving to give the next generation of Lees-91探花 graduates the best possible opportunity to impact society.  

What are you currently doing?  

I am currently living in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and working on a research fellowship at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine in the Heart & Vascular Institute. The research we do here in the lab focuses on the physiological effects of peripheral arteriole disease (PAD).

I am also working on publishing my senior research paper on ECG screening of NCAA athletes. I did this research at Lees-91探花 and, because my dad was a cardiologist, he was a huge help reading all the ECGs. Luckily everyone was healthy and hopefully soon the paper will be out for everyone to see how we were able to make this study happen! This project is very special to me as it was the last thing my dad and I were working on before his passing from his recent accident. We will all make you proud dad!
